Danny Johnson is a wise dude. He’d be the first to deny it, but that’s because he’s also extremely humble. His time is spent roaming the globe and meeting interesting characters who I’m sure walk away from their Danny time with a smile on their dial. While juggling his role as editor at Waves Magazine he also managed to bring our Goodcheer website to life with his wonderful designs, and for this we are ever so thankful. I sat down with Danny last Friday night for my first face-to-face interview. Enjoy.
Rad Surfing. Rad Film-making. Rad People. Kill the Matador has the right recipe for Radness. Our good friends Otis Carey & Pat Pearse have teamed up to create this new surf flick capturing the antics of Otis and his mates traveling the globe, scorin' tubes and getting a little raw. Be sure to head along and check a screening
Back in 2011 we found ourselves on the west coast of India hanging with Ishita Malaviya, India's first female surfer. Two years on she is now the pioneer of the Shaka Surf Club, a small group of surfers in Manipal dedicated to sharing the stoke of surfing. Check out this lovely little film featuring Ishita, guaranteed to put a smile on ya dial.
Remember when you were a grommet, and there was that older "cool dude" you looked up to? For me, Jonathan Durrant was that "dude". His care-free, goofy & wondrous character was everything I wanted to be, and not just me, but a bunch of other guys also admired Jonno. When I was 17 he invited me on a 7 month road trip around America to make some kooky film, and that's where I got to really know one of the most amazing humans to dance on this earth. Over the last 8 years we have collaborated on numerous projects, and the Goodcheer ethos of 'inspiring change through creativity' is a direct result of everything Jonno has taught me over those years. Read his interview and have a laugh…
We are forever thankful for epic beings like Jon Krakauer, who brought 'Into The Wild' into this world. This tale will leave you frothing on life like nothing else. Here's a few more of his lines to get you started...
Goodcheer has been traveling, meditating, dancing, thinking, re-branding and now introducing its new look, feel and mission.
Thailand is known to many people as The Land Of Smiles. After traveling here for the past month filming our latest production we can see why.
Where in the world can you slurp down a good quality cup of coffee where 100% of the profits fund aid projects in developing countries?
Flamingos and Dingos, that’s where.
Last month Goodcheer teamed up with Linc Caplice and created ‘Cosmic Cappuccino’.
Thank you so much and an infinite amount of shakas to those who came down on Saturday 28th May 2011, to the ‘Our Home’ Back Yard Bash. The Bands wailed, feet stomped, tears were shed, ‘yews’ called and yarns were spun. In the end the 150 people that came helped to raise $3500 for the kids of the ‘Our Home’ charity, which will pay for a brand new classroom.
Where we live the waves are often crowded and full of angry competitive dudes thinking they're all Kelly Slater. The concept of sharing does not exist. Where our new friends Tushar & Ishita live in Manipal, India, it is the complete opposite.
1 camera, 2 rolls of film, 3 months in India. Enjoy.
When we first signed up for this challenge we knew we'd have our fair share of obstacles, but nights in jail, chronic sickness in bed and being stranded in a small Himalayan village were not places we imagined to find ourselves.
The plane tickets are booked, the road map is bought, the challenge is set; to Surf all 28 States of India in under 3 months.
